Best Practice Guidance Workshop for Early Years Setting

The workshop will provide an introduction to the new updated Early Years Best Practice Guidance (BPG) document. You will find out how to use the document to ensure that young children can fully access and benefit from your provision at universal, targeted and personalised levels. The BPG document is for all early years practitioners and will enable the whole setting to become fully engaged with the expectations set out in the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice (2015) and Kent SEND processes.

Makaton Beginners' Workshop (2 days)

The Beginners’ Workshop provides a practical introduction to Makaton for workers, parents and carers who need to use Makaton in everyday situations, at work and/or at home. You will learn the signs and symbols for Stages 1-4 of the Core Vocabulary plus the Additional Vocabulary. The course is very practical and interactive.
This is a two day course. Certificates are provided by The Makaton Charity and will be signed by the tutor on completion of each training module.

The Prime Importance of Physical Development

This training builds on practitioner knowledge, understanding and skills at universal level. It will also help you to identify children at risk of delay, and support their physical development through targeted activities and interventions. It will help you to recognise when a referral to other professionals is necessary.

Early Years Special Educational Needs Coordinator Training for the New SENCo

The Early Years SENCo day one training provides an introduction to the role of setting SENCo. The course is for Level 3 practitioners in a private, voluntary and independent (PVI) setting, who may be new to the SENCo role or for practitioners who plan to be a setting SENCo in the future. It is also relevant to childminders, setting managers and deputy managers.

This course is funded by Kent County Council for delegates from Kent-based PVI settings, including childminders. The course is chargeable to collaborations or when delivered in house at a setting.

Only 1 Delegate per setting may attend.

How to Break Even and Avoid Bad Debt

Is your setting financially viable? Are you covering all your costs? Are you accruing or carrying bad debts?
The purpose of this course is, firstly, to understand the break-even process and how you can adjust costs to help your business become self-sustainable and, secondly, to demonstrate the impact on a business of accruing bad debts.

Delegates are requested to bring a laptop with them to the training as there is an activity book to complete during the training. If you are bringing the nursery laptop please ensure that you comply with the relevant GDPR and Ofsted requirements.

Registered Person Role in Quality Assurance

This course is for individuals responsible and accountable for the provision of Early Years Education and Childcare in an Ofsted registered setting who do not manage its day-to-day running. This includes committee members and trustees of a charity, individual owners (e.g. sole traders), partners in a limited liability partnership, directors on the executive board of a registered company.

Entry requirements:

  • understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (previous experience/knowledge or completion of e-learning module)
  • awareness of Safeguarding requirements in Early Years settings
  • overview of the Quality Audit for the Registered Person Part 1 (it will be emailed to delegates prior to the attendance)

    • identify the role of effective leadership in your provision
