Early Years SENCO / Inclusion Lead Training (two sessions)

Audience: Early Years & Childcare
Multiple sessions
  • Foundation

Brief Overview

This course is funded by Kent County Council for delegates from Kent-based PVI settings, including childminders and Kent maintained nurseries. If you are a member of staff at any of these settings this training is available to you free of charge. The price below is for those outside of Kent.

This course aims to provide a professional and supportive learning journey for SENCOs/Inclusion Leads (new and existing) to increase confidence, knowledge and understanding. Learning is designed to be interactive and thought-provoking. The course will provide an in-depth focus on the key principles of inclusive SEND practice, as set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage (2021), SEND code of practice (2015) and the Equality Act (2010). You will learn about the graduated approach, the 4 broad areas of need, the importance of early intervention, the role of the SENCO/Inclusion Lead in supporting other practitioners, creating effective parent partnerships, Kent SEND processes and working with other professional agencies outside of your setting.

PRE COURSE E-LEARNING – It is expected that all delegates complete the Getting to Know your Early Years Best Practice Guidance (BPG) E-learning prior to attending this training. This e-learning module is free for Kent settings, is available on The Education People Website and should take approximately one hour to complete. The Early Years SENCO/Inclusion Lead Training builds on key learning from this e-learning module.

THE TRAINING COURSE - This course will include two 3-hour sessions, each running as an interactive zoom session. You will have the opportunity to complete a setting based task between the two sessions.

Learning Outcomes

  • To gain an up-to-date understanding of Kent processes and underpinning knowledge required to carry out your SENCO/Inclusion lead role.
  • To assist you in developing key skills needed that can enhance your work with children and families.
  • To provide opportunities to champion and develop strong inclusive practice to support children in your setting.

FOLLOW UP – After attending this training you will be invited to attend a follow up group support session with an Early Years Equality & Inclusion Adviser. This will be an opportunity to come together with other SENCOs/Inclusion Leads, share your experiences, and as a group reflect on examples of things that are going well and challenges you may be facing. It will also be an opportunity to think about ‘what’s next?’ in your SENCO/Inclusion Lead journey. How will you continue to develop your own knowledge and skills and those of your team?
