Fussy Eating for KCC Foster Carers

Brief Overview

An introduction for Foster Carers in how to support children to manage picky or fussy eating behaviours that will help promote harmonious mealtimes, foster healthy eating habits and develop a positive relationship with food.

The session will be facilitated by Lindsay Gilbert, Healthy Weight Programme Manager, Public Health and Prevention Division, Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Learning Outcomes

Themes include:

  • Understanding why young children develop fussy eating behaviours and particular challenges facing parents and carers of children with SEN with more extreme food refusal that can severely affect eating and mealtimes
  • Practical strategies to support children of any age to eat well.
  • Consideration of when to be concerned about the nutritional quality of a child’s diet and where to refer or signpost for additional support and information.

This session is suitable for any Foster Carer working with children and young people aged 0 to 19 years.
