Introduction to School Finance for Headteachers

Brief Overview

This course is aimed at newly appointed Headteachers or for those Headteacher who would like a refresher on the processes and procedures that schools must follow.  The course will enable delegates to gain a good understanding of school finance and their responsibilities as a Headteacher. 

This course will include demonstrations and practise on the information Headteachers are required to sign for.  Procedures will be linked to the KCC Financial Controls and the Schools Model Finance Policy.  

The morning will concentrate on the importance of the authorisation of financial documents providing a practical introduction to the information Headteachers have to take responsibility for and why there must be the proper financial procedures and processes in place and will include: 

• the Schools Financial Services team
• policy documents
• financial controls
• why Headteachers need to authorise financial documents
• separation of duties
• payment of goods and services
• corporate cards
• salary payments
• school bank accounts
• financial reports
• budgetary control
• useful reports

Delegates will be required to bring along: 

A copy of their Schools Finance Policy
