The Art of Teaching So Children Remember

Audience: Primary
Single session
  • Primary School Improvement Training Package
  • Foundation
  • Key Stage 1
  • Key Stage 2

Brief Overview

This session will focus on teaching for long-term learning and good progress. We will explore the current research around memory and how to make learning 'sticky', with lots of examples and practical ideas for use across all curriculum subjects. Confirmed delegates should have to hand a copy of their medium-term planning for one foundation subject.

"I have attended countless training sessions over a lot of years and unlike many, 'The Art of Teaching so Children  Remember,' is one of those courses that will stay with me for a long time to come.  Jenny has cracked that fine balance between theory, for those of us who like the statistics, and strategies, for those who want ideas to use in the classroom.  I highly recommend this course for teachers and leaders and anyone who wants learning to 'stick'." - Head of School, St Margaret's-at-Cliffe Primary School.

Learning Outcomes

This course will bridge the divide between research and practice so that you will:

  • understand why children so quickly forget what you have taught
  • understand why building knowledge for the long term learning is so important and how to do it
  • see how all children can benefit from retrieval practice and spaced learning, particularly the less able children
  • have practical opportunities during the training to plan to help your children to remember more of their learning and so make better progress.
