Audience: Early Years & Childcare, Primary
Single session

  • Key Stage 1

Brief Overview

Creating Inclusive and Equitable Spaces and Contexts

This half day online conference will explore how the environment is so much more than the placing of furniture and the place where teaching and learning occurs.
Our two keynote speakers will share both theory and practice to ensure all our children are successful and thrive by providing an environment that acknowledges and celebrates children's diverse cultural and social heritage, and their experiences.

Key Speakers:

  • Dr Shaddai Tembo, lecturer in Early Childhood Studies at Bath Spa University and for Pre-School Education in China
  • Georgina Tait, Early Years Leader and teacher at Phoenix Infant Academy in Slough

Georgina will be leading a session on "Creating Inclusive and Equitable Spaces: The Enabling Environment in Early Years" - delving into the essential elements of fostering a truly inclusive learning environment for young children. The session will start by contextualising the concept of inclusivity within the framework of the unique child and celebrating the individuality of each child—understanding their diverse backgrounds, abilities, and interests. She will share and explore practical strategies for tailoring teaching approaches to meet the specific needs of every learner; ensuring that every child feels valued and respected and sharing the importance of developing deep authentic connections with families and the broader community. Building strong relationships with parents and caregivers is key to understanding the whole child and creating a supportive network that extends beyond the classroom walls. Throughout the session, Georgina will explore what it truly means to know, see, and hear your children. It is about understanding their unique personalities, learning styles, and developmental stages. Practical examples to illustrate how this deep understanding translates into meaningful teaching practices that promote inclusivity and equity will be shared.

Feedback from last years Online Conference includes:

Thank you. Very informative, lots of information to digest and move forward with.

Made me reflect upon the provision and what we offer the children.

Having a speaker who was a practicing teacher enhanced the theory into practice.

Thank you for a fantastic, informative session.
