A Practical Guide to Visual Support Strategies in the Early Years

Brief Overview

Do you find embedding visual strategies into your practice challenging? Have you tried using visuals and felt it has not been successful? Do you feel unsure when choosing the most appropriate visual strategies?  If you have answered “Yes” to any of these questions, or if you are curious to know more, then this is the course for you.

This session will explore the holistic benefits of using visual strategies with children and the different types of visual support that can be used, including symbols, objects and signing. This training will provide practical strategies and demonstrate how these can be implemented in your setting to enhance your universal/targeted practice to support children’s communication, well-being and inclusion.

 

Learning Outcomes

  • Explain the benefits of using visual support in early years settings and how this can support children’s communication and well-being.
  • Identify the most appropriate visual support strategies to use with children at varying stages of development.
  • Know how to implement visual support strategies within an early years environment as part of universal and targeted practice.
